AUTM Joins White House Roundtable on Commercializing Climate & Clean Energy Technologies

Last week AUTM Members joined leaders from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), along with the White House National Economic Council and the White House Climate Policy Office to discuss commercializing climate and clean energy technologies.

They were joined by senior figures from pivotal entities such as the Department of Energy (DOE) and the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), alongside prominent representatives from venture capital firms, universities, and law firms, to unveil a series of strategic actions.

Central to the meeting was the introduction of a tailored term sheet specific to climate, environment and sustainability-related technologies. Crafted collaboratively by AUTM Members along with venture capital organizations, leading universities and law firms, this term sheet offers a blueprint for negotiations between investors and academic institutions.

During the meeting, attendees also discussed challenges to commercializing climate and clean energy technologies, as well as finding tangible, repeatable and accessible solutions to climate challenges.

In addition to the term sheet release, during the meeting, the NSF signaled its intent to roll out a groundbreaking funding opportunity dubbed Translation Accelerators, slated for launch in the summer of 2024. Empowered by the President’s CHIPS and Science Act, these accelerators are poised to revolutionize the translation of laboratory innovations into impactful products or services.

With each accelerator eligible for up to $10 million annually over five years, contingent upon congressional appropriations, the initiative promises to bolster America’s technological prowess while fortifying its economic and national security interests.
