AUTM Sets Roadmap to Achieve Bold Strategic Goals: Strategic Plan 2025-2027
Our profession’s landscape is rapidly evolving in many ways. To continue leading at the forefront of innovation, we have the unique opportunity to position AUTM for long-term success and leadership. As we prepare for our 50th anniversary in 2025, a milestone that stands as a testament to the transformative role AUTM has played in advancing technology transfer and knowledge exchange, we celebrate five decades of driving economic growth, fostering societal impact and connecting professionals across academia, industry and government. This half-century of progress is both a time for reflection on our past and a chance to chart an ambitious and forward-looking path for our future.
The next three years are critical for AUTM, as we continue to evolve our organization alongside the ever-changing demands of the profession. The work our members do is not just important; it is essential to the well-being and progress of society. The role of AUTM, as the leading association in this space, must evolve accordingly. This new strategic plan represents a commitment to expanding our community and investing strategically in the programs, services and partnerships that will enable both our members and the broader technology transfer ecosystem to thrive.
Solidly rooted in AUTM’s mission, vision and values of connection, impact, continuous learning and integrity, and driven by months of conversations and input from diverse stakeholders, the AUTM 2025-2027 Strategic Plan focuses on six priorities:
- Support Technology Transfer and Knowledge Exchange Globally
- Intentionally Grow Industry Engagement
- Continually Evolve Programs and Services
- Support Career Development Across the Career Lifecycle
- Expand Models for Membership
- Improve Advocacy for the Technology Transfer and Knowledge Exchange Profession

This is an exciting time to be a technology transfer and knowledge exchange professional and an even more exciting time to be part of AUTM, as we redefine what it means to be successful in our profession. Thank you to all who participated in the work that went into creating this vision for our organization. This plan was crafted with guidance from consulting firm Emergent Method and input from more than 600 people through a comprehensive member benefit survey, 10 qualitative interviews focused on business specialties, eight strategic planning listening session and discussions at the AUTM Annual Meeting and the 2024 Region Meetings.
