What is your idea of perfect happiness?
I don’t have ideas of “perfect happiness,” because happiness can be fleeting. My perfect joy comes from my perfect savior.

Which living person do you most admire?
Probably Francis Chan. He’s a passionate speaker and author. He travels the world practicing what he preaches. He also has a great sense of humor.

What is your greatest extravagance?
Vacation with my wife. Or dining at a fancy restaurant with my wife. Or dining at a fancy restaurant while on vacation with my wife.

What is your greatest fear?
Leaving this side without accomplishing all that God has for me to accomplish.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Knowledge – because there are many foolish, knowledgeable people.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
Actually, the word I overuse is…actually.

Which talent would you most like to have?
I would like to be able to ask all the right questions to help lead someone (or myself) to a deeper understanding. That… and the ability to cook any dish simply from smelling and tasting it.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I’ll go with leading a men’s group. There were great things, including conversations, relationships, and edification beyond my ability that came from it.

What’s the best deal you’ve helped facilitate in tech transfer and what made it sing?
I’m not a deal-maker, but a deal- “primer.” In my role, I don’t always know what deals result from my efforts because someone could reach out months or even years after my work was done. That said, there was one agreement that I’m very happy to have worked on. A company wanted to renew a license for a research tool. The previous agreement had since expired. Since then, the PI had moved to another institution, so we needed to work out the logistics – where is the material? Who would ship it? How does the money flow, etc.? Company personnel were in transition. They needed me outside of my normal role and I stepped in and kept things moving forward. I wouldn’t say it was “smooth,” but I was able to help and we were able to keep the agreement alive.
