Designed for licensing professionals with more than three years' experience, this one-day program brings together instructors with years of experience negotiating transactions for both research institutions and companies for a deep dive into critical provisions in license agreements. The program will focus primarily on drafting consideration and diligence terms that help maximize the chances that licensed technologies are successfully commercialized and that research institutions are compensated fairly for what they are licensing. Instructors will point out possible loopholes in a license that can be detrimental for the licensor, sharing “war stories” as well as strategies and solutions to avoid such loopholes. This is an opportunity for you to develop a deeper understanding of license structures and language and to share your creative solutions with others.

How can we use the toolbox at our disposal – from outreach to events to platforms to partners – to develop targeted, effective, measurable communications plans?

Through this 1-day course, you’ll get answers to these questions and by the end of the last session, you’ll have the basics of a strategic marketing plan that you can begin implementing right away.

Each stop is rooted in the local ecosystem, blending national-level expertise with region-specific perspectives.

Hosted in collaboration with local universities and sponsors, the program features a dynamic mix of networking, thought-provoking keynotes or panels, and highly interactive roundtable discussions that encourage meaningful peer exchange. • Facilitated roundtable discussions throughout the day
  • A networking lunch to continue conversations
  • An afternoon wrap-up followed by a university- or sponsor-hosted reception
Initial locations under consideration include Boston, the DFW Metroplex, Washington, DC, and the Los Angeles area, with the goal of creating a scalable model that can expand to additional regions in the future.
