In today’s interconnected world, international advocacy for technology transfer is paramount. The AUTM Board of Directors recognizes the critical importance of promoting technology transfer on a global scale to ensure equitable benefits for all AUTM Members worldwide.

Like the innovation it supports, technology transfer is not bound by national borders; it is a catalyst for innovation and economic growth that transcends geopolitical boundaries. By advocating for international technology transfer, AUTM facilitates the dissemination of scientific discoveries and encourages collaborative efforts that can address global challenges effectively.

Recently, the AUTM Board of Directors had the opportunity to engage with international delegations at Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. Collectively, the AUTM Board of Directors engaged with four embassies and 27 representatives' offices. These meetings provided a platform to discuss key legislation and the need for supportive alignment with the patent system and the significance of technology transfer in fostering global innovation ecosystems. By highlighting the diverse contributions of AUTM Members, these discussions underscored the importance of policies that support international collaboration and protect intellectual property rights. Building on the tremendous efforts of AUTM Past Chair Almesha Campbell, the efforts to strengthen and implement AUTM's international strategy has never been greater.

Looking ahead, AUTM recognizes the importance of outreach to international leaders regarding upcoming U.S. legislation affecting technology transfer. There are lessons to be learned from both sides. Strengthening ties with policymakers ensures alignment on cross-border initiatives that promote innovation and facilitate seamless technology transfer between our nations. At its core, advocating for international technology transfer ensures that all AUTM Members, regardless of their location, have access to resources, networks and best practices. This inclusivity strengthens AUTM's global network and enhances the quality and diversity of innovations brought to market.

AUTM's advocacy efforts extend beyond national boundaries to foster a collaborative environment where innovation can flourish. This approach is essential, as innovation knows no borders. Ideas developed in one part of the world can have transformative effects in another. It is crucial that the IP rights and systems in place allow this approach. By promoting technology transfer best practice globally, AUTM not only facilitates the spread of knowledge but also encourages diverse perspectives and solutions to global challenges.
