Instructor Bios

Rachel Simpson is the Assistant Director – Commercial at the University of Dundee. She leads the IP & Commercialization team and RIS Contracts. Her team, within Research & Innovation Services, is focused on identifying and protecting University of Dundee IP, facilitating industry collaborations, and business development, licensing IP, and the identification and formation of spin-out companies from the excellent research at Dundee. Rachel has a Ph.D. in molecular genetics, followed by a career in industrial research and then law, before joining the University of Dundee in 2014.

Andrew Tingey is a highly experienced (>20 years) dealmaker, having led or been involved in hundreds of commercial agreements involving the license or sale of intellectual property rights. He has held a variety of senior managerial and senior technical roles, including internationally, and with overseas managerial experience. Andrew’s original technical background is in life sciences with a successful track record in diverse technical applications and markets such as greentech, chemicals, and software. He consults on licensing including IP-based dealmaking, IP valuation, technology transfer, and IP strategy.  Nominated in the "IAM300" group of Global Leaders in IP Strategy, he is a frequent conference speaker on licensing matters and is a course director and trainer for Knowledge Exchange UK on licensing matters. Andrew is a UK citizen working in central London.
