Software is eating the research enterprise, and open source is eating software (especially AI). Whether you are dealing in drug discovery, diagnostics, medical devices, materials science, robotics or energy, chances are there is a software component of your technology and an open-source issue with that software. Licensees want to know what code can be exclusively theirs. PIs want to know what code they can/must publish as open source. Everyone wants to know how the open-source licenses affect their patents. TTOs need to be able to provide answers and manage these issues before, during and after the license negotiations. Join us to hear how TTOs are solving for these and other open-source issues in technology transactions.
Learning Objectives
- Learn how to do basic open-source diligence
- Obtain valuable patent rights for software subject to an open-source license
- Understand the impact of open-source releases post license
