This webinar will encourage collaboration between tech transfer offices by helping US professionals understand how tech transfer is performed in European countries. Presenters will use legal examples to introduce European regulations impacting tech transfer —from the Technology Transfer Block Exemption to the European Commission’s recommendation on the management of IP and Code of Practice for research organisations. Once the groundwork of regulations has been reviewed, representatives from the United Kingdom, Italy and the Netherlands will discuss issues related to inventorship and licensing that are unique to their countries such as:
  • How patents and other technology-related IP rights acquired by universities are exploited in the United Kingdom
  • Professor privilege” from the Italian legal perspective and agreements between public/private partners
  • Why socially responsible licensing policies by the Dutch Federation of University Medical Centers are being adopted by research institutions across The Netherlands
Learning Objectives:
  • Explain the regulatory context of European technology transfer
  • Describe some of the peculiarities in European regulation and policies on IP management and exploitation
  • Manage collaborations between US and European TTOs
