IP Overview
Participants will be guided through the four basic types of intellectual property: patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets. You will learn how to quickly identify which type of intellectual property applies, what is and is not covered by each type, the essential features of each type, the respective systems for protecting each type, and the differing types of intellectual property administration. |

Patenting 101
Participants will learn the fundamentals of patent prosecution from the perspective of a university technology transfer office (“TTO”). You will learn about the different types of patents and get a closer look at both the US and foreign patenting process including office actions, restriction requirements, missing parts, advisory actions, and requests for continued examinations. |

Keeping up with Patenting
The patenting process is complex and requires oversight at all stages of the process, including before the patent is filed, during patent prosecution, and after the patent is granted. Participants will be guided through best practices for managing patent prosecution in a TTO. You will gain an understanding of the best practices to critically evaluate invention disclosures, manage outside counsel, manage the examination of a patent application, and administer associated costs. |

Agreements Primer
Whether you are involved in license maintenance, finance, or patent administration, the ability to read a license agreement and understand each party's obligations under it is a key skill for doing your job effectively. This session will give participants an overview of the common terms found in a license agreement, their importance, and the differences between various types of license agreements. The session will close with a case study, where participants will work through an exclusive license agreement to gain hands-on experience in reading and understanding a license agreement. |

We all celebrate the signing of a license as a job well done. However, how do we keep up with licensees once a license agreement is signed? Why is it important to ensure licensees are on track to commercialize licensed technologies? In this session, participants will learn about the importance of and best practices for ensuring licensees are meeting diligence milestones, royalty obligations, and reporting obligations, as well as how to ensure licensees are on track to commercialize licensed technologies. |
