With the rapid acceleration of technologies that connect us, and the radical reduction in the cost of technology, we are now finding new ways to manage the innovation process, and work collaboratively with entire ecosystems of contributors. This session will examine how institutions view their role and how they can contribute to a stronger ecosystem.

1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.	Workshops A1: Small but Mighty! A Small Office Support Group Always left feeling like “the little guy”? Let’s discuss ways to discover your strengths and create strategies for how to optimize your small office. This roundtable will provide you with an opportunity to meet your Small Office peers, learn how to make the most out of your small office with limited resources, brainstorm how to take advantage of the benefits of being a small office, and learn successful practices aimed at gathering “tools” for your “toolbelt”. A2: True Cost of Startups Startups -- they are often a ruler by which we measure our success, but some flourish and others fail miserably. How do we manage the risk to ourselves and our institutions? And are there steps we can take to help them succeed? Join us for a discussion and thought-provoking case studies highlighting the pitfalls and the resources your institution should have to support faculty startups and de-risk the activity for all those involved. These are the true costs of startups we don’t always consider!

3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.	Barriers to Entry in Tech Transfer: Expanding Commercialization Opportunities Labor shortage, access to resources and financing, ESG criteria are part of our economic preoccupations in Canada and all have an impact on tech transfer. We want to take some time to discuss and try to address equality, diversity, and inclusion in tech transfer which add another layer of challenges to our activities. We are all moving into a more inclusive and innovative world, so we must adapt our practices.

8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.	The Value of Data in Technology Transfer Deals Tech transfer professionals will share their experiences in creating value from bioinformatics to clinical and research data for the benefit of their institutions, hospitals and industry partners.

9:45 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.	Research Integrity: Best Practices for Identifying Risk and Complying with Government Regulation

11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.	Workshops B1: Advanced Topics in Drafting Sponsored Research Agreements This will be an interactive session led by two experienced research contract negotiators, with attention to all the tricky little details that can hold up “getting to yes”.  There will be discussion of the big issues such as IP and Publications, but also the little details such as Definitions, Indemnities, Payment terms, and Termination.  The participants will also discuss how assessment of the actual research activity bears on the degree of risk and willingness to compromise, and how one responds based on the way that the industry side reacts to redlines and negotiation of terms. B2: Interface Between Universities & Entrepreneurship TTOs are increasingly supporting entrepreneurship beyond just creation of startups.  These roles may include building entrepreneurial skills, competitions, student facing events and other training programs. This session will discuss some of these expanded roles and how they relate to our core mandates.

1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.	Workshops C1: Social Innovation C2: Impact of the Return of Biomanufacturing in Canada Canada is investing billions of dollars in the biomanufacturing and life sciences sector to increase the production of vaccines and therapeutics. The goal is laudatory, but how will this initiative impact universities and research institutes? What partnerships are required to ensure that the approach is sustainable? Listen to a broad range of panellists discuss the impact of this government strategy.

3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.	What’s Your Problem?! Throughout the meeting, you’ll be able to submit your challenges and questions that are keeping you up at night. This final, interactive session will take the crowdsourced submissions and discuss the most pressing questions.
