TOMORROW: Former AUTM Chair to Address House Judiciary Subcommittee on Intellectual Property 

The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet will hold a hearing tomorrow, Tuesday, June 6, at 10 a.m. ET on "IP and Strategic Competition with China: Part II – Prioritizing U.S. Innovation Over Assisting Foreign Adversaries," to examine recent Biden Administration actions leading to increased foreign governments’ access to advanced technology owned by U.S. companies and universities through waiving IP protections. The hearing will address the impacts of these actions on U.S. innovation and technological leadership, as well as the availability of life-saving medical advances in the future.

Marc Sedam, former AUTM Board Chair and currently the Vice President of Technology Opportunities & Ventures at NYU Langone Health, will address the challenges of the TRIPS waiver and its expansion: concerns that the TRIPS waiver will weaken patent rights and result in a reduction of future investment in transformative ideas and early-stage innovation the Biden Administration touts as the future of the economy.
